Post and Collar System of Installation

Galvanized Post & Collar

This system uses a unique and easy method of installing your fence. It works for any style or model of PVC fencing. Here are the advantages.

  • no need to dig holes in your lawn - no mess!
  • no need to buy or mix concrete, this method insures your posts are solid and securely placed in the ground
  • much quicker method of installation - saves labor costs
  • saves on cost of PVC materials as shorter less expensive PVC posts are required - bottom of post is placed slightly below ground lever for appearance purposes only - saves about 2' of PVC post costs
  • much easier to achieve post alignment with the adjustable collars.
  • although the cost of materials is somewhat more the final cost of your fence is similia to what you would have spent to dig holes and place posts in concrete.

The Materials Needed

  1. Galvanized steel 2 5/8" diameter cut to appropriate length to match height of your fence - usually 2' - 2 1/2' longer then the height of the fence you are installing.
  2. Two poly vinyl sockets designed to fit over the metal galvanized post.
  3. A sturdy string line at least 100 feet in length. We use two, from one end post to the other end post in the line. The two are place screwed to an installed collar on the end posts at levels you plan to install both top and bottom levels of the collars. Be careful that that level does not match level of the holes in posts as the collars will restrict insertion of rails.
  4. A post pounder and air compressor or a gas powered post pounder (our rental dept has this item available to rent if needed)
  5. A level preferably 5' long
  6. Battery powered drill to insert screws
  7. A supply of hex head screws - we use #10.s about 1 1/2" long.
  8. A shovel to dig a slight hole around the pounded post so that the bottom end of your 5" x 5" PVC sleeve is an inch or so below finished grade
  9. A trained "eye" to double check all levels and elevations to achieve that "perfect" look

How It Works

  • This system eliminates the necessity for digging posts holes and in general making a mess on your lawn and also the expense of buying, mixing and installing concrete
  • the system makes installing much easier and faster - less labor
  • this system of installation makes any repairs that may be necessary in the future to your fence project very easy to accomplish
  • This system requires a post pounder. Several different types are available from your local rental yard.
  • We also have the necessary equipment available for rental
